A full session focusing on the REUMAVID project was held on Monday 26 April 2021 at the Annual Conference of the British Rheumatology Society (BSR 2021). REUMAVID was selected for a monographic session among numerous other proposals due to the quality and scope of the study, as well as the incorporation of the patient perspective to the assessment of the impact of the pandemic. In addition, REUMAVID results were also presented in this British Conference in the form of an ePoster.
Dr. Victoria Navarro chaired this session and Professor Marco Garrido, together with the heads of the British branch of the project: Dr. Helena Marzo Ortega, rheumatologist and researcher at the NIHR Leeds, and Dr. Dale Webb, Chief Executive of the National Axial Spondyloarthritis Society (NASS). Professor Marco Garrido discussed the aims and methods of the project, Dr Helena Marzo spoke about the REUMAVID results found in the UK, while Dr Dale Webb spoke about the role of patient organisations during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The results showed better management and health status of British patients compared to those in the rest of Europe, which may be due to the less restrictive measures implemented by the British government during the first wave of the pandemic.
